It is noteworthy that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, President-designate of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, reviewed today the vision of the Egyptian presidency of COP27 to enhance international climate action, especially with regard to measures to adapt to climate change, mobilize climate finance, and transform climate pledges into a tangible reality on the ground. . This came during Shukry's reception today, Monday, by Alan Richard Donohue, President of the 15th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that Minister Shoukry stressed the importance of coordination efforts between the United Nations conventions on climate change and combating desertification and biodiversity. He said that the Foreign Minister, during the meeting, congratulated Côte d'Ivoire for the successful hosting of the 15th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Abidjan last May, an agreement closely linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. He also welcomed the outcomes of the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties represented by the "Abidjan Call", which will be addressed during the COP27 conference to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh next November, bearing in mind that desertification is one of the most severe repercussions of climate change. Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the president of the 15th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification expressed, during the meeting, his keenness to coordinate with the Egyptian presidency of the COP27 conference, and to organize joint activities that contribute to achieving the common goals of the two international conventions, as the two sides discussed a number of proposals put forward in that matter
