Dozens of Palestinian supporters demonstrated Friday in front of Parliament in Rabat against normalization with Israel, according to AFP correspondents, after the Jewish state summoned its ambassador to Morocco as part of an investigation into it. About a hundred demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the rapprochement between the Kingdom and the Hebrew state, the Israeli ambassador to Morocco, David Govrin, and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. And on Monday, the Israeli public radio "Kan" reported that a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs went to Rabat to investigate allegations of sexual abuse against Govrin. An Israeli source confirmed to AFP that Govrin was summoned for an investigation, which did not clarify its nature. According to Israeli media, Guvrin faces charges of exploiting local women, sexual harassment and crimes against decency. The investigation also focuses on a series of alleged embezzlement, especially the disappearance of a gift sent by the King of Morocco on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, and it was not handed over to the government as usual. "Today we are in front of the parliament in protest against the heinous acts committed by the official of the Israeli Liaison Office in Morocco," Amin Abdel Hamid, activist in the "Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalization," said in a statement to AFP. "Morocco's dignity is not for sale, normalization must stop," the activist continued. The demonstration in front of the parliament headquarters in the center of the capital took place quietly, according to AFP correspondents. At the end of the demonstration, protesters burned an Israeli flag. Morocco cut its relations with Israel in the year 2000 following the second Palestinian uprising, but in the year 2020, the kingdom followed the example of the UAE, Bahrain and Sudan, and proceeded to normalize relations with the Hebrew state at the prompting of the United States, in exchange for the latter’s recognition of its “sovereignty” over the disputed territory of Western Sahara. . This normalization is accompanied by a regular influx of Israeli delegations to Morocco. At the beginning of the year, the Moroccan foreign minister headed to Israel as part of a summit that brought together the leaders of the United States and Arab countries that normalized their relations with the Jewish state. Govrin, 59, was ambassador to Egypt from 2016 to August 2019, and was appointed head of the mission of the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat in early 2021, before he was officially appointed as Israel's ambassador to Morocco. This week, the Israeli Foreign Ministry did not want to make any comment about the investigation to AFP. Govrin is currently in Israel and an investigation has been opened against him, according to a diplomatic source in Jerusalem. The Moroccan authorities did not want to make any comment. It is scheduled that the Inspector General of the Moroccan Armed Forces, General Farouk Belkheir, will visit Tel Aviv next week to participate in an international military conference
