The head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, pledged to strengthen the mechanisms of peaceful transition, leading to civilian rule that represents all Sudanese, and called on the international community to forgive his country from debts.
During a speech before the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Al-Burhan reiterated the military establishment’s withdrawal from the ongoing dialogue process in his country, “with the aim of allowing the political and revolutionary forces that believe in democratic dialogue to form a civilian-led government of independent national competencies.” .
He also renewed the commitment to "working to sustain peace and strengthening the mechanisms of peaceful transition to reach a full democratic transition through fair, fair and transparent elections."
Al-Burhan praised the national initiatives for dialogue, in which political, social and youth forces are involved, along with the signatories of the Juba Peace Agreement, and expressed his hope that they will produce a consensus that facilitates the democratic transition in the country.
Sudan's debt
The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council called on "the international community and brotherly and friendly countries to fulfill their pledges they made in the Paris 2020 and Berlin 2021 meetings, to forgive Sudan's external debt, which stands as a stumbling block to its progress and the implementation of sustainable development goals."
Al-Burhan said that "foreign debt stands as a stumbling block before my country and limits its efforts to continue achieving economic and social development through the implementation of sustainable development goals."
Al-Burhan affirmed that Sudan "completed all the legislation required to benefit from debt relief."
