Israeli ministers discuss draft maritime agreement with Lebanon

JERUSALEM, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Senior Israeli cabinet ministers will meet on Thursday to discuss a draft US-brokered border demarcation agreement with Lebanon on a disputed gas field in the Mediterranean, but they will not vote on a final agreement, a senior Israeli official said.

The draft agreement, the details of which have not been released, was initially welcomed by the Israeli and Lebanese governments. But there was internal opposition in the two countries, which are still technically at war.

Deputy Foreign Minister Aidan Rolle said the Israeli security cabinet, which is concerned with approving key strategic matters, would meet at 4 p.m. (1300 GMT) to discuss the draft.

"The main points of the agreement and the things we support will be presented to (the council)," Roll told Ynet TV.

However, he pointed out that Israel does not consider the agreement final, and explained, "There are still reservations... The agreement will be presented to the Security Council, then to the Council of Ministers (with its full formation), then it will be referred to the Knesset."
