The United Nations announced the killing of 100 Palestinians in the West Bank and 16 Israelis since the beginning of this year 2022.
"I am alarmed by the deteriorating security situation, including the escalation of armed clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem," said the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wencesland.
"Since the beginning of the year, at least 100 Palestinians, including children, have been killed, amid a significant increase in Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank, including Area A," he added in a statement received by Al-Ain News, on Saturday evening. Areas under the control of the Palestinian Authority.
He added: "During the same period, 16 Israelis were killed inside Israel in a wave of attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs."
"The escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank is fueling a climate of fear, hatred and anger. It is necessary to reduce tensions immediately to open space for decisive initiatives aimed at creating a viable political horizon," Wencesland warned.
"I urge the Israeli and Palestinian authorities, and I remain in active contact with them, to restore calm and avoid further escalation," he said.
"The fragility of the situation underscores the urgency of changing the dynamics on the ground, while addressing the underlying security and political issues that fuel the current instability," the UN envoy added.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the killing of 4 Palestinians during the past 24 hours.
Israel declared a state of alert on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of the throne, which begins on Sunday and lasts for a week.
And on Saturday evening, the Israeli police said in a statement received by Al-Ain Al-Akhbar: "Police forces and border guards are continuing survey and combing activities and additional activities to locate the shooter at the Shuafat refugee camp this evening."
