Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said on Tuesday that Israel and Lebanon had reached a "historic agreement" regarding the demarcation of the maritime border.
"This is a historic agreement that will enhance Israel's security, inject billions into its economy, and ensure the stability of our northern borders," he added.
Lapid said in a statement that the agreement will be presented to the security cabinet and the government on Wednesday for approval before it is presented to parliament.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Twitter on Tuesday that his country hopes to announce the agreement on the demarcation of the water border with Israel as soon as possible, especially since the final version of the agreement is "satisfactory" for Beirut.
He added that consultations will be held with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament to take a final position on the formula of the agreement.
Two senior Lebanese sources said on Tuesday that the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has given the green light to a US-brokered maritime border demarcation agreement with Israel.
A senior Lebanese government official and another close to Hezbollah stated that the group had agreed to the terms of the agreement and considered the negotiations over.
