In the context of his bilateral meetings with senior officials in Belgium, Ambassador "Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty" met with the Prime Minister of the Government of Wallonia (one of the three regions that make up the Kingdom of Belgium and its federal government), who was former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, where the Belgian official expressed His deep appreciation for Egypt and its political leadership, and his aspiration to achieve further cooperation between Egypt and Belgium in general, and the Wallonia region - which he represents - in particular.

The meeting, which took place at the residence of the Egyptian ambassador, dealt with the development of bilateral relations between the two countries and the importance of working to maximize the benefit of the momentum generated by the visit of the President of the Republic to Belgium during the month of February 2022, and the bilateral meetings that gathered His Excellency with His Majesty the King of Belgium and the Belgian Prime Minister In addition to his meetings with the heads of the boards of directors of major Belgian companies to discuss strengthening cooperation in various fields.
In this context, Dr. Abdel-Aty reviewed the huge opportunities for cooperation between Egypt and Belgium in the field of construction or in the field of energy, whether in the field of natural and liquefied gas, or in the clean and renewable energy sectors, as well as cooperation in the production of green hydrogen in light of the opportunities which is owned by Egypt through the economic zone in the Suez Canal Zone, and Egypt's endeavor to establish a green corridor on both sides of the canal to produce green hydrogen and export it to European countries through the Belgian port of Antwerp.

For his part, the Prime Minister of the Wallonia Regional Government expressed the interest that the Belgian side attaches to Egypt's hosting of the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, where Dr. Abdel-Aty referred to the ongoing preparations for Egypt's hosting of the UN conference. The Summit of Heads of State and Government to be organized on the sidelines of the conference; Abdel-Aty dealt extensively with the Egyptian efforts to make it a conference for implementation and move from the stage of issuing pledges to the stage of implementing specific projects and focusing on the issues of adaptation, mitigation, financing, losses and damages.

On the other hand, Ambassador Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty met with Mr. Thomas Dermine, Belgian Minister of State for Economic Recovery, Strategic Investments and Science Policy, in the presence of the Head of the Commercial Office, where they dealt with strengthening bilateral economic and trade relations and organizing more mutual visits during the coming period as a commercial delegation from the three Belgian regions is visiting Egypt this week Next, a delegation from the Egyptian-Belgian Businessmen Association will visit Belgium in the third week of October. Abdel-Aty also discussed with the minister the file of cooperation in recovering smuggled and stolen Egyptian antiquities in light of the Belgian Minister of State's supervision of Belgian museums and accelerating the recovery process.
