The United States welcomes the election of Abdul Latif Rashid as President of Iraq

Today, Friday, the United States of America welcomed the election of Iraqi President Abdel Latif Rashid and the assignment of Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to form a government.
"Today, after more than a year of negotiations to form the government, the United States welcomes the election of the Iraqi parliament, Abdul Latif Rashid, as president of Iraq and the Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani," said a statement by the official spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, quoted by the Iraqi News Agency "INA".

He added, "As Iraq's political leaders form a new government, we encourage them to bear in mind the will of the Iraqi people, who voted for a government that responds to their needs. The United States urges all parties to refrain from violence and resolve differences amicably and peacefully through the political process."

"The United States reaffirms its commitment to partnering with the people and government of Iraq to advance our many shared priorities, and we look forward to continued strong cooperation between our two countries."
