Greek authorities have launched a major search and rescue operation for dozens of missing migrants, after their boat capsized and sank between the islands of Evia and Andros.
Today, Tuesday, the US coastguard said that nine people, all of them men, were found on an uninhabited rocky island in the Kaveria Strait between the two islands, east of the Greek capital.
The Coast Guard added that a helicopter and a patrol boat, in addition to two ships, are participating in the search and rescue operation for the missing.
The survivors - who were picked up by a coast guard patrol boat - said the boat was carrying about 68 people when it sank, adding that they initially set sail from the city of "Izmir" on the Turkish coast.
The authorities received a distress call in the early hours of Tuesday morning from the passengers that the boat they were on was in trouble, and its location has not been determined yet.
