Algeria announced that it has submitted an official application to join the "BRICS" organization, which is made up of the names of the countries with the fastest economic growth in the world, namely; Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
This came during a press statement made by the Special Envoy in charge of major international partnerships at the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Leila Zerrougui.
She explained that Algeria had the opportunity to participate in the recent summit of the "BRICS" group in China, in which Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was invited to participate.
She added that Algeria made a priority request during the summit, which called for the need to open up to the inclusion of other countries in the group, noting that this request was welcomed by both Russia and China, and it is expected that the rest of the BRICS members will study Algeria's file, and it concerns both South Africa. India, and Brazil.
It is noteworthy that the "BRICS" organization is a political and economic bloc; It includes Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa.
Last July, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed that the "BRICS" group is of interest to Algeria, given that it is an economic and political power, and considered that "joining this group comes as an affirmation of Algeria's principle of non-alignment."
