The President of the European Union today in Mauritania coming from Tunisia

Charles Michel, President of the Council of the European Union, is holding talks today, Sunday, in Nouakchott, with senior officials in Mauritania, dealing with ways to enhance cooperation and bilateral relations between the two sides in various fields. The visit of the senior European official to Mauritania came after the end of his two-day visit to Tunisia, during which he met with President Qais Ben. According to a source from the European Union institutions in Brussels, Michel is scheduled to head from Nouakchott to Accra on a two-day official visit to Ghana, during which he will hold talks with senior officials. He will also participate in a conference on the Accra initiative. Representatives of neighboring countries of the Gulf of Guinea, Benin, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo met in Accra. Last Thursday (November 17th). This was their first major conversation on strengthening cooperation and the Accra Initiative brings together seven West African countries to discuss ways to prevent the spread of terrorism from the Sahel region. Among the participants in the week-long meeting are EU officials, ambassadors from member states, traditional leaders and some regional military officials. The conference is expected to culminate in a summit of heads of state and government of member states.
