The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution affirming the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources, according to the Palestinian News Agency, Wafa.
159 countries voted in favor of the resolution, and 10 countries abstained, while 8 countries opposed it, namely Israel, the United States, Canada, Chad, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palu, and Nauru.
The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, thanked all countries for their "almost unanimous support for the Palestinian right," and stressed the need to "commit Israel to the content of this decision, and for the world to force it to implement it."
The Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein Al-Sheikh, welcomed the decision, and said that it "adds to hundreds of decisions that affirm the Palestinian right and the illegality of the occupation and its aggressive and racist measures and practices."
