Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, called for the resumption of dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, in a congratulatory message that the Pope delivered today, Sunday, in the square of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican on the occasion of Christmas, according to the "Vatican News" news website.
Pope Francis said, "While many sit around a rich table, enormous amounts of food are wasted daily and resources are spent on weapons." He condemned the use of food as a weapon of war and said the war in Ukraine had put millions at risk of starvation.
He added that the conflict in Ukraine should not lessen the concern for people whose lives have been destroyed by other conflicts or humanitarian crises, and singled out Syria, Myanmar, Iran, Haiti and the Sahel region in Africa.
Pope Francis has called for an end to the war in Ukraine and other conflicts, saying the world is experiencing a "famine of peace" and urging help for the homeless, migrants, refugees and the poor "who knock at our doors in search of comfort, warmth and food".
