The United Nations Support Mission in Libya denied what was circulated by some social media regarding the plans of the UN envoy, Abdullah Batili, to announce a map that includes the formation of a new government.
According to the Libyan News Agency, “WAL”, the mission confirmed in a statement on its Facebook page today that this type of false news aims to confuse the ongoing political process, and create confusion regarding the role of the mission, which is not represented in imposing a recipe for a solution, but rather requires encouraging and supporting a Libyan solution – Libyan.
The mission called on all parties to refrain from any actions that might threaten the fragile stability in Libya, including the dissemination of misleading or fabricated information.
The mission indicated that the most reliable source for accessing credible information about the activities of "Bathily" is its official website and its accounts on social media.
The statement indicated that "Bathily" stressed that any road map must be the result of a comprehensive dialogue that brings together all Libyan parties, and in light of full respect for the rights and interests of the Libyan people and their aspirations to choose a leadership and institutions that enjoy legitimacy.
The mission added that its mandate in Libya is to help the Libyan people achieve these aspirations, noting that "Bathily" urges all political leaders to intensify their efforts to achieve this goal in 2023.
