The head of the Lebanese caretaker government, Najib Mikati, submitted a communication to the Financial Prosecutor, Judge Ali Ibrahim, in which he requested the opening of a comprehensive and expanded investigation regarding the work of the Lebanon Post Company, and to reveal whether there were any violations or abuses committed by it or by its owners or curators, with Take the necessary legal action.
Mikati confirmed that the submission of the communication came after it became clear that every time an issue was raised related to the “Lebanon Post Company” entrusted with providing postal services for the benefit of the Lebanese state, some media outlets mobilized to attack the company and attack him personally on the pretext that it is owned by him.
He added that the communication comes after the attack he was subjected to after a decision was issued by the Council of Ministers approving the assignment and authorization of the Minister of Communications to sign a contract of release and discharge of liability with this company, indicating that this issue had been included in the Cabinet session from outside the agenda at the request of Minister of Communications.
Mikati explained that the appointment of the Minister of Communications by the Council of Ministers came in implementation of the laws and regulations in force, and based on the report of the Audit Bureau, which was entrusted with acquitting the company and the ministry after making the required clearing, as stated in the report.
He pointed out that in order to ensure the protection and preservation of the rights of the state exclusively, and in order to fix the loopholes as a result of the eight-time renewal of the company, the Ministry of Communications prepared a booklet of conditions as required by the provisions of the “public procurement” law, and an auction was launched to provide postal services in accordance with the rules.
The prime minister requested an investigation based on the principle of transparency and a refutation of what he described as systematic fabrications and the unjust campaign against him.
It is noteworthy that postal services for the benefit of the Lebanese state were privatized more than 20 years ago, and were owned by a company that provides government services exclusively in a contract that extended from 1998 until 2014, then the contract was extended until the Unified Procurement Law was approved last year, which stipulated the abolition of exclusivity. In Lebanon and open the way for competition.
On the other hand, a Lebanese depositor opened fire today, Tuesday, at the entrance to the "Blom Bank" bank in the southern city of Sidon.
According to the Russia Today website, a Lebanese army intelligence patrol arrested the shooter, called Muhammad Q, who is a soldier in the army.
During the past months, Lebanon witnessed numerous bank intrusions by depositors of their money in it who could not recover it, and it amounted to about 8 intrusions in one day, and as a result the Association of Banks announced the closure for a period of 3 days due to security concerns, considering that “the continuation of the policy of indifference (before) government) means continuing the policy of storming banks.”
