Today, Tuesday, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Minister Riyad Mansour, sent three identical messages to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month (Malta), and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, regarding the continuation of Israel, the occupying power, in Its illegal and destructive attempts to impose a fait accompli in occupied Palestine by intensifying measures of colonization, annexation and collective punishment.
Mansour pointed out to the Israeli government's decision to "legitimize" 9 settlement outposts it established on Palestinian lands that were seized by force and illegally, and its decision to link dozens of other illegal outposts to Israeli infrastructure, and to announce plans to build 10,000 more housing units in Settlements established in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, illegally.
He pointed out that Resolution 2334, which reaffirmed that Israel's establishment of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law, in addition to the Council's condemnation of all actions aimed at changing the composition. The demographic, character and status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and relevant resolutions.
Mansour spoke of Israel's continued destruction of Palestinian homes and other civilian buildings, under the pretext of the lack of permits issued by the occupation and as a punitive measure, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the prohibition of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
He pointed to the increase in the number of Palestinian victims, including children, in light of Israel's continued violent attacks on the Palestinian people, noting the martyrdom of Amir Ihab Al-Bustami (21 years old), and the wounding of 7 others during the occupation's storming of the city of Nablus, in addition to the death of the child Qusai Radwan (14). years) during the storming of the city of Jenin, and Mithqal Suleiman Rayan (27 years) was killed in Salfit by settlers' bullets.
Mansour stressed that this dangerous situation requires immediate action by the international community to fulfill its legal obligations, including under the Geneva Conventions, including ensuring protection for the Palestinian people and making serious and immediate efforts to implement all relevant United Nations resolutions, and to stop the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people. Including all measures of colonization and annexation of Palestinian lands, and salvaging prospects for a just and peaceful solution, calling once again on the Security Council to take immediate action and seek by all means and practical measures to implement its decisions, including Resolution 2334.
This comes after the European Union affirmed, on Monday, its rejection of the Israeli occupation authorities’ decision to “legalize” 9 settlement outposts in the West Bank, reiterating its position that the settlements are illegal under international law, and that it will not recognize any changes to the 1967 borders “other than those agreed upon by the two parties.” ".
In a statement, the European Union called on Israel to stop building settlements and urgently rescind these recent decisions.
Expressing deep concern over the escalating tensions and increasing violence, he said: "In the current troubling context, it is important to consider steps to de-escalate the situation and avoid unilateral decisions and actions that would undermine the viability of the negotiated two-state solution, and fuel further tension."
