Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The meetings of the foreign ministers of the European Union countries began in Brussels today. The agenda of the meeting issues the situation in Ukraine, followed directly by the situation in Tunisia. "The Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union today in Brussels," said Luis Bueno, spokesman for the European Union in North Africa and the Middle East, in a tweet this morning. On his agenda: the Russian war on Ukraine, the situation in Tunisia and the search for a way forward in terms of EU policy on this important partner.
At the beginning of this month, Nabila Masrali, the European spokeswoman in Brussels, said that the European Union is following the developments in Tunisia "closely and with great concern."
She added that Tunisia is "going through difficult times," expressing her hope that "the Tunisian authorities will find the right answers to the many challenges" with the participation of "all social and political stakeholders."
She stressed that the EU is "ready and willing to support unity and efforts when it comes to structural changes."
The Union's institutions published the agenda of the meeting, which is chaired today by Josep Borrell, Coordinator of Foreign and Security Policy in the Union. The agenda includes files related to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Tunisia, international events and current affairs. In the afternoon, there will be a joint working session of the Foreign Affairs Council that brings together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense (round table). Aspects of the European Union's support to Ukraine will be discussed
