At the end of the first summit held in Denmark on May 18, 2022, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands signed the Esbjerg Declaration. The aim of the declaration was to turn the North Sea into "Europe's green power plant".
According to the Belgian news agency, energy security and the fight against climate change are crucial for Europe. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the momentum and further strengthen cooperation in the North Sea. Belgium's ambition is to work with the countries called upon to produce more affordable, safe and sustainable energy in the North Sea. To this end, the second edition of the North Sea Summit will be held on April 24, 2023 in Ostend, Belgium.
