The Council of the European Union announced the allocation of an additional billion euros, within the framework of the European Peace Fund (EPF), to enhance the military capabilities of the Kiev forces, which are preparing for their counter-offensive against the Russian army.
"This measure will provide funding for the support of Ukrainian forces with 155mm artillery shells and, if necessary, with missiles jointly purchased by EU member states from the European defense industry," said a statement, a copy of which we received via e-mail and published by the EU's executive body, the European Commission. .
Commenting on this step, Josep Borrell, the European Union Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that today's decision represents an important new step to provide more ammunition support to Ukraine.
He added: The Ukrainian army needs large quantities of ammunition to defend the Ukrainian people and lands, and it is in dire need of it along with the previous decision to provide ammunition quickly from the current stocks, and thus we commit two billion euros for this purpose, and accordingly the total military support provided by the European Union to Ukraine to 5.6 billion euros.
