Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
No fewer than 107 former presidents and prime ministers have called on Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States to designate the IRGC a terrorist organization and punish them. They also condemned Iran's supply of drones to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine.
European activities were received, and partisan votes in Belgium considered it a "step in the right direction, but it is not enough," says Member of Parliament Ellen Sameen of the Belgian right-wing Vlaams Belang party. The strongest signal would be to cancel all trade treaties and agreements with this terrorist state.
According to a statement issued by the Belgian party on Tuesday morning, of which we received a copy, the international appeal is directed in particular to Europe, the United Kingdom, US President Joe Biden and Canada. The letter writers want a tougher approach to the Iranian regime. Specifically, for them, this campaign means blacklisting the Revolutionary Guards and holding government officials accountable for their crimes against humanity.
"Iran is an example of a rogue state and should be isolated internationally"
"Of course we support additional sanctions against the Islamic regime in Iran," says Simeen. But that alone will not bring the regime to its knees. Vlaams Belang has been arguing for some time to cancel all trade treaties and agreements with Iran.”
According to the Belgian right-wing party Vlaams Belang, only severe punishments are effective. "Today, Iran is guilty of spreading terror and gross human rights violations, intensifying executions at home, illegally imprisoning foreigners and supplying weapons to Russia to target the civilian population of Ukraine," Samin concludes. "It is an example of a rogue state and should be isolated internationally."
