The European Union institutions in Brussels announced  Friday, that the European Union's foreign policy coordinator, Josep Borrell, will visit Cairo, starting , Saturday. A European statement said, "During his visit, the European official will hold bilateral and high-level institutional meetings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mohamed Zaki, Minister of Defense and Military Production and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abbas Kamel, Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States.
The visit will provide an opportunity to review and strengthen the partnership between the European Union and Egypt, as well as the cooperation between the European Union and the League of Arab States, and discuss common global and regional challenges, such as migration, energy, combating terrorism and food security. .
In statements to "Europe and the Arabs" website, Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aty, Egypt's ambassador to Brussels, headquarters of the European Union and NATO, said that the relations between the two sides are witnessing a great development during the last period, adding that Egypt is the only country in the region that has successfully completed all the meetings of the six sub-committees of the Association Council between The two sides recently convened in Cairo the Participation Committee that coordinates the work of the sub-committees, and this paves the way for the convening of the Egyptian-European Partnership Council, which is chaired by both the Egyptian Foreign Minister and the European Foreign Policy Coordinator. Very important visits, for example, a visit by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Foreign Service, Mr. Charles Friese, and the inauguration, with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, for the first time, of the joint presidency of the Global Forum to Combat Terrorism, which is now under the European-Egyptian presidency, in addition to the holding of the political consultations session between the two sides in Cairo Recently, as well as other visits, which reflects the momentum in relations and will be crowned by holding a partnership council between the two sides later this year.
