A parliamentary delegation from the Egyptian House of Representatives is visiting Brussels, the capital of the European Union, headed by Representative/ Tarek Radwan, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, with the membership of Representative/ Ayman Abu El-Ela, Undersecretary of the Human Rights Committee, and Representative/ Mohamed Tayseer Matar, Secretary of the Human Rights Committee, And Representative/ Mahitab Mohamed Abdel-Hadi, member of the House of Representatives.
The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Brussels organized a number of important meetings for the parliamentary delegation today, July 17, 2023, in which the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, participated. The delegation's meetings included interviews with a number of senior European and Belgian officials, with the Director General of the Bilateral Relations Sector at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and the Director General of the Multilateral Relations Sector at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, in the presence of the Director General of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Belgian Foreign Ministry, in addition to To the Acting Director General of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Foreign Service, and Mr. Representative David McCallister, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.
The visit program also included holding an extensive meeting with representatives of the member states of the European Union. The meeting was hosted by the Greek Mission to the European Union, and was held with the participation of representatives of the member states of the Mashreq, Maghreb, Middle East and Gulf groups in the European Council.
The Egyptian parliamentary delegation, headed by Representative/ Tarek Radwan, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, reviewed the positive developments that the human rights file in Egypt has witnessed recently, foremost of which is the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy, after conducting the first executive report of the National Human Rights Strategy in December 2022, in addition to To the positive developments witnessed by the National Dialogue, whose first session was held in May 2023 with the wide participation of various currents, political parties, civil society organizations and the opposition, and the expected progress that the dialogue will produce in terms of its political, economic, social and human rights axes. Mr. Representative Tariq Radwan also referred to the important role played by the Presidential Pardon Committee after activating its flag in April 2023, which resulted in the release of more than 1,400 people since the activation of the committee and their reintegration into society.
The delegation also touched on the concern that the state attaches to the issue of upgrading the human rights situation within the framework of the comprehensive approach, which focuses on civil, economic, social and cultural rights, in line with what was stated in the National Human Rights Strategy. In this context, MP Tariq Radwan elaborated on the Decent Life initiative, which aims to raise the standard of living in the most needy villages through the implementation of major development projects in various sectors, thus contributing to further upgrading human rights conditions, especially in its social and economic dimensions along with the dimension politician.
For their part, officials of the European Union and the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised Egypt's remarkable positive development in terms of the national strategy for human rights and national dialogue, and expressed their aspiration to continue engagement with the Egyptian side at all levels. distinguished between Egypt and Belgium.
