European UN support to help the displaced and those affected by the crises in Iraq

Brussels-Baghdad: Europe and the Arabs
The United Nations World Food Program in Iraq has welcomed a cash contribution from the European Union to assist displaced and crisis-affected people in Iraq who have lost one or more of their basic civil documents so that they can be integrated into the national social safety net. According to the United Nations news bulletin, of which we received a copy on Tuesday
The program said in a press release issued on Monday that it welcomes "the generous contribution of the European Union amounting to 5 million euros."
He added that thanks to the contribution of the European Union - which was provided through the European Union's Humanitarian Aid Operations Department - the World Food Program will be able to provide cash assistance for a period of 12 months to the neediest families in the governorates of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Anbar, Baghdad, Babel and Diyala.
The program stressed that obtaining valid civil documents is crucial to accessing national social safety nets and social protection mechanisms, as these documents ensure that people in dire need of these services receive the necessary assistance to meet their immediate food requirements and livelihood challenges.

"The power of choice"
"The European Union has supported over the past eight years conflict-affected and displaced Iraqis who are among the most vulnerable groups, and the cash assistance will help beneficiaries obtain documents that will facilitate their reintegration into the national social protection plan," said Christophe Reltien, Head of the Office of European Humanitarian Aid Operations in Iraq.
The World Food Program stated that this cash assistance is in line with the standards and approach of the Iraqi Monetary Forum, as well as with the distributions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, which aim to provide temporary support to families participating in programs that help them access civil documents.
“Cash provides the power of choice and allows families vulnerable to vulnerabilities – including lack of basic documents – to choose what they need most,” said Alireza Qureshi, Representative and Country Director of the WFP Office in Iraq.
The statement indicated that the program will also advocate for prioritization and inclusion of crisis-affected populations in national protection mechanisms, and support for the coordination of cash assistance in the humanitarian response to these targeted populations.
He stressed that this intervention is expected to enhance social cohesion and reintegration, and address the livelihood needs of the most vulnerable communities.
