The UN Commissioner for Human Rights in Iraq.. visited Erbil yesterday, today in Basra, and tomorrow in Baghdad

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk continues the program of a four-day official visit to Iraq, at the invitation of the Government.
During his visit, Turk will hold meetings in Baghdad and Basra in the southwest of the country, as well as in Erbil in the north. According to what was stated in the United Nations news bulletin, of which we received a copy, this morning, Tuesday
The High Commissioner will meet with senior government, parliamentary and judicial officials at the national level, as well as senior KRG officials and officials in Basra.
He will also engage with civil society representatives in Baghdad, Basra and Erbil on a range of issues, including the impact of climate change on human rights.
First official visit to Erbil
Yesterday, Monday, Volker Turk visited Erbil in the first official visit by a UN commissioner for human rights to the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Türk met with the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and other senior officials.
The High Commissioner also held meetings with civil society representatives and human rights defenders working on issues such as justice and accountability, violence against women, freedom of expression and climate change, among others.
Turk will visit Basra in southeastern Iraq today, Tuesday.
At the conclusion of the visit, the UN Commissioner will hold a press conference in Baghdad on Wednesday, 9 August.
