The European Union is ready to create a new system of individual sanctions for spoiling the coup in Niger

The European Union reiterated its strong condemnation of the coup in Niger, which will have nothing but negative repercussions on the well-being and security of the Nigerien population as well as on regional stability.
According to what was stated in a European statement issued in Brussels by the European External Action Service. Through the statement, the European Union officially reiterates its call for a return to the constitutional order, indicates its support for President Bazoum, and welcomes the decisions taken by the heads of state of the Economic Community of West African States during the second extraordinary summit devoted to the situation. In Niger, on August 10, 2023, and in particular the will to continue to seek a diplomatic solution to the current crisis, taking note of the mobilization of the Standby Force.
"The European Union fully supports the efforts of the Economic Community of West African States and is ready to support them, including through the creation of a new system of individual sanctions," the statement read.
The European Union once again condemns the illegal detention of President Bazoum and his family, and wishes to express its deep concern at the continuing and alarming deterioration in their conditions of detention. The European Union calls once again for their immediate and unconditional release.
The European statement concluded by saying, "In the face of the crisis in Niger, the European Union will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and stand by the people of Niger, particularly in their commitment to human rights."
