Khartoum: Europe and the Arabs
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that at least two million children have been forced to leave their homes since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan four months ago, at a rate of more than 700 new displaced children every hour.
As violence continues to ravage the country, it is estimated - according to UNICEF - that more than 1.7 million children are on the move within Sudan's borders and more than 470,000 children have crossed into neighboring countries.
“With more than two million children uprooted from their homes in just a few months due to conflict, and countless more caught in its brutal grip, the urgency of our collective response cannot be emphasized enough,” said Mandeep O'Brien, UNICEF Representative in Sudan.
The latest report on food security in Sudan estimates that 20.3 million people will go hungry between July and September 2023, and the health and nutritional status of about 10 million children is also expected to worsen.
UNICEF appealed to all parties to the conflict to prioritize the safety and well-being of children, to ensure their protection, and to enable unimpeded humanitarian access to affected areas.
