German police confiscate hundreds of weapons from those involved in the attempt to overthrow the government

Berlin: agencies
German authorities have confiscated hundreds of weapons and tens of thousands of ammunition during investigations against a far-right group whose aim is said to overthrow the government, according to German news agency DPA.

The Ministry of Justice said, in response to a question from Parliamentarian for the Green Party, Marcel Emmerich, that so far 362 firearms, 347 white weapons and 148,761 pieces of ammunition have been found.

The Supreme Court said the anti-state "Reichscitizens" movement, led by suspect Heinrich Prinz Reuss, intended to forcibly overthrow Germany's political system and install a new government.

In December 2022, the Federal Prosecutor's Office had more than two dozen suspects arrested in Germany, Austria and Italy, including former officials, police personnel and a former member of parliament of the far-right Alternative for Germany party.

According to the ministry, investigations into the weapons seizures have not yet been completed, and therefore the figures are preliminary.
