Russia describes the European statement on the elections in the new regions as interference in internal affairs

Russian State Duma member Vasily Piskarev described EU spokesman Peter Stano's statement about the elections in the "new Russian regions" as "flagrant interference in Russia's internal affairs and an attempt to put pressure on voters." He added, "We consider the threats launched by the European Union official as blatant interference in the internal affairs of Russia and by putting pressure on the voters, and Mr. (Stanu) should not doubt that the elections will certainly take place on all the lands of our country, where they are scheduled to take place, and they will be conducted in full accordance with the legislation." The European Union's foreign ministry spokesman, Peter Stano, had previously threatened accountability over holding elections in the "new territories" of the Russian Federation, saying: "The elections are a violation of international law."
