According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the NATO headquarters in Brussels, the NATO Secretary General will participate, on Thursday, September 07, 2023, in a joint meeting of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) and the Security and Defense Subcommittee (SEDE) to exchange views. . According to the statement, at 8:30 CET, the opening speech of the NATO Secretary General will be followed by an exchange of views with members of the European Parliament. The event will be broadcast live on the NATO website and on the portal of the Multimedia Center of the European Parliament.
This comes within the framework of the joint keenness of both sides to coordinate positions on many files, especially since a large number of European Union countries are members at the same time in NATO.
It is expected that the file of developments in Ukraine will dominate the discussions, especially in light of the successive developments and the joint assertion on the part of NATO and the European Union to stand by the Ukrainian people and provide the required support, whatever it takes, whether it is economic, financial or military support, and at the same time support a peace initiative in Ukraine. Ukraine will be consulted during the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly this month in New York
