The Arab delegations participating in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly hold several meetings with delegations from various parts of the world. This global session often constitutes an opportunity to hold talks between the Arab parties with leaders of world countries from different continents to consolidate relations, enhance cooperation, and coordinate positions on various issues, and sometimes it is The meetings are an opportunity to calm the atmosphere and end the difference in viewpoints during these talks. According to multiple media reports, there will be Arab-Arab meetings, as well as Arab-European meetings and others with various and multiple international parties.
The European Union will host or co-host several key events on the sidelines of the General Assembly, as Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell will host, on Monday, a ministerial meeting on the Middle East peace process, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab League, Egypt and Jordan.
On Wednesday, Borrell will co-chair with Egypt the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum and Commissioner Lenarcic will co-chair a ministerial pledging event on the humanitarian situation in Sudan. On Thursday, Commissioner Lenarcic will co-host a high-level roundtable on accelerating climate action in Fragile and vulnerable contexts, in cooperation with Belgium and the United Arab Emirates. On the same day, he will also co-chair a high-level side event on closing the humanitarian funding gap, in collaboration with Sweden and Saudi Arabia.
Today, Monday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
According to the Palestinian News Agency, Wafa, the Palestinian President briefed his Algerian counterpart on the latest political developments related to the Palestinian issue, and on the occupation’s practices and aggression against the Palestinian people, which undermine the chances of peace and the two-state solution.
The President discussed with his Algerian counterpart ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples, in addition to many international and regional issues of common concern, appreciating Algeria’s positions in support of the Palestinian cause in all international forums.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Palestinian President thanked Algeria for its firm and supportive positions on the State of Palestine and its people.
For his part, the Algerian President affirmed his country's position in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people until they achieve their legitimate rights to freedom and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed, with a number of foreign ministers of countries participating in the work of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a number of issues of common interest and developments at the regional and international levels.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Monday that the UAE Foreign Minister met with his Irish counterpart, Michael Martin, and Bakhtiyar Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, where they discussed with the two ministers a number of issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly, in addition to bilateral cooperation in several fields, Including economic, commercial, investment, cultural, educational, agricultural, technology, food security, renewable energy, and others.
The discussions also touched on the climate file, and the importance of investing in this international platform to mobilize international efforts to confront the repercussions of climate change, especially with the Climate Ambition Summit being held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan briefed the foreign ministers on the UAE’s preparations to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) during the coming months of November and December at Expo Dubai.
The UAE Foreign Minister stressed the UAE's keenness to build constructive and positive international partnerships, based on inclusiveness and multilateral action, and leading to achieving sustainable economic growth and comprehensive development in societies.
The UAE Foreign Minister also met, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, with Santiago Andres Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Argentina, where they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries.
Following the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of cybersecurity between the two countries.
In a related context, during his meeting with Barbara Leaf, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed discussed a number of issues of common interest and exchanged views on them.
