Naji said: “The ultimate goal is a political solution for the Palestinians, ending the occupation and a two-state solution.” “Because Palestinians also have the right to a free and safe life. Human rights for all.” Earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter (Greens) went around the world with a video calling for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
A huge pro-Palestinian demonstration was also held in London, with hundreds of thousands of people marching through the city center on Saturday, according to the CNN team on the ground. An estimated 300,000 people attended the march, a London Metropolitan Police spokesperson told CNN.
The Hyde Park Corner area in central London witnessed a heavy police presence, while demonstrators chanted "Free, free Palestine" and "ceasefire now." They were also heard chanting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!”
Police arrested 82 counter-protesters who attempted to intercept marchers. The Metropolitan Police said the people were arrested "to prevent a breach of the peace".
Police said they "faced assault from counter-demonstrators" who stormed the area "in large numbers" before it became the largest march yet since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began nearly a month ago.
In other places in Europe, including Paris, thousands of people participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Paris on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered on Saturday near the street where US President Joe Biden lives in the US state of Delaware, to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The crowd began forming around 11 a.m. ET. Many of them carried Palestinian flags, and large balloons read: “Ceasefire now.”
On Friday, about 2,000 people attended a demonstration in New York City, gathering at Columbus Circle before marching to the area around Times Square and eventually to Grand Central, where demonstrations temporarily blocked access to the station.
