The European Union foreign and security policy official begins his visit to Lebanon today

A European statement issued in Brussels today, Friday, said that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, began a visit to Lebanon that will continue until January 7.
Borrell will meet with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Abdullah Bou Habib, and Lebanese Army Commander General Joseph Aoun.
During his stay, the European official will also exchange talks with the Head of the Mission and Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), General Aroldo Lazaro.
The visit will be an opportunity to discuss all aspects of the situation in and around Gaza, including its impact on the region, especially the situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border, as well as the importance of avoiding regional escalation and sustaining the flow of humanitarian aid. Humanitarian aid for civilians, which the European Union has quadrupled to reach €100 million.
Borrell will reaffirm the need to strengthen diplomatic efforts with regional leaders with the aim of creating conditions to reach a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine and the region.
Bilateral cooperation and local and regional issues of interest will also be part of the discussions.
