The United Nations and its partners have warned that more than half of Yemen's population is in need of humanitarian and protection services, and reiterated the call to support the country's humanitarian response plan. According to what was stated in the daily news bulletin of the United Nations
Citing humanitarian workers, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in the daily press conference that more than 18 million Yemenis need this aid. Last week, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and its partners launched a review of the humanitarian needs for the current year and the response plan for Yemen, through which they seek to raise about $2.7 billion to support 11 million people across the country.
Some 12.4 million people lack adequate access to safe drinking water, increasing the risk of infectious diseases, while more than 4.5 million children remain out of school and missing out on educational opportunities, OCHA said. Stephane Dujarric said that Yemen suffers from "one of the highest rates of malnutrition ever recorded."
To support more sustainable programming and shift away from aid dependence, the 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan will focus on cooperation with development partners to support livelihoods, basic services, economic conditions and long-term solutions.
