European Union: We are concerned about Israel's plans to carry out a military operation against the Palestinians in Rafah

The European Union is deeply concerned about the Israeli government's plans for a possible ground operation in Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians are currently seeking refuge from the fighting. According to a statement issued in Brussels by the office of Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign and security policy coordinator.
The statement also stated, “The European Union recognizes Israel’s right to defend itself in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law. The European Union requests that the Israeli government not undertake any military action in Rafah that would exacerbate the already catastrophic humanitarian situation and prevent the provision of basic services.” and much-needed humanitarian aid.
The European Union reiterates the importance of ensuring the protection of all civilians at all times in line with international humanitarian law and respecting the order issued by the International Court of Justice on 26 January, which is legally binding.
The European Union reiterates its call on Hamas to immediately and unconditionally release all hostages.
The European Union Foreign Affairs Council will review the situation at its meeting next Monday, February 19.
