Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said that Romania and Bulgaria are fully committed to protecting the external borders of the European Union. She added in a post on the “X” website this morning, “Therefore, we are moving from pilot projects to cooperation frameworks. This means more financial and operational support to strengthen the external borders of the European Union.” “Romania and Bulgaria belong fully to the Schengen area,” von der Leyen added.
The Schengen countries, or officially the Schengen Area countries, are a group of European countries that have abolished internal borders, in order to facilitate the freedom of movement of citizens and also for joint work to control external borders and combat crimes through security and judicial cooperation...
On June 14, 1985, the border city of Schengen, located in the State of Luxembourg, witnessed the birth of an agreement to abolish border controls between 5 European countries: Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and also Luxembourg.
This agreement was named after this small city located in the far southeast on the borders of France and Germany.
