UNRWA stated that at least one employee was killed and 22 others were injured, as a result of “Israeli forces bombed a food distribution center in the eastern part of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.”
Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, said, “Today’s attack on one of the few remaining UNRWA distribution centers in the Gaza Strip comes at a time when food supplies are running out and hunger is spreading, turning into famine in some areas.” According to what was stated in the United Nations daily news bulletin.
Lazzarini confirmed that UNRWA shares all the coordinates of its facilities throughout the Gaza Strip with the parties to the conflict. He stated that the Israeli army received the coordinates, including information about that facility, the day before yesterday, Tuesday.
Since the start of the war 5 months ago, UNRWA has recorded an unprecedented number of violations against its employees and facilities that exceed any other conflict around the world:
At least 165 UNRWA members were killed, including in the line of duty
More than 150 agency facilities were bombed, some completely destroyed, including many schools.
More than 400 people were killed while seeking safety under the UN flag.
There were reports that tunnels were found under UNRWA facilities and that its facilities were used for military purposes.
There have been reports of ill-treatment and humiliation of UNRWA staff while detained in Israeli detention centres.
The Commissioner-General of UNRWA stressed the need to protect the United Nations, including its employees, facilities and assets, at all times. He stated that attacks on United Nations facilities, convoys and employees, since the beginning of this war, have become a regular occurrence in what constitutes a blatant disregard for international humanitarian law.
The UN official called again for an independent investigation into these violations and to ensure accountability.

The Commissioner-General of UNRWA described the war in Gaza as “a war on children, their childhood and their future,” and renewed his repeated calls for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds for their sake.

The development came as UN humanitarian workers repeated their dire warnings about the catastrophic situation in Gaza, where one in four people is approaching famine - at least 576,000 people. So far, about 25 people have died from severe acute malnutrition and dehydration in northern Gaza, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), including 21 children.
