Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati commented on the targeting of a UNIFIL vehicle in southern Lebanon, saying: We condemn this serious incident.
Mikati made a call to the Commander-in-Chief of the international forces operating in the south (UNIFIL), General Aroldo Lazaro, expressing his solidarity with the international forces after the targeting of a UNIFIL vehicle, which led to a number of injuries.
For his part, he assured General Lazaro that UNIFIL is conducting its investigations into the incident to uncover its circumstances. He added: We have to wait for the results of the investigation because there are many possibilities, and we are communicating moment by moment with those in the field to obtain more information before announcing the results.
Tension increased on the southern border on Saturday morning, after the southern town of Taybeh was subjected to an Israeli air strike. Enemy aircraft carried out 3 successive raids targeting the town’s neighborhoods with 6 air-to-surface missiles, the explosion of which caused a huge sound that echoed in the Nabatieh and Khiam regions, and clouds of smoke rose in the sky. The United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL, said that targeting our observers is unacceptable. According to the information available so far, the mechanism is affiliated with international observers from the United Nations peacekeeping forces called “UNIFIL”.
The vehicle that was targeted by the Israeli occupation forces includes three officers, one of whom is Australian, the second is Chilean, and the third is Norwegian.
While the Israeli army denied committing the incident, saying, “We did not target any vehicle belonging to UNIFIL forces.”
Meanwhile, UNIFIL ambulances headed to evacuate the wounded.
On the other hand, yesterday, Friday, the Israeli occupation army aircraft launched an air attack with missiles targeting the outskirts of the towns of Aita al-Shaab and Shebaa in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that, at around three in the afternoon, Israeli warplanes carried out an air attack, launching a raid targeting the town of Aita al-Shaab with two air-to-surface missiles.
