A Saudi-European agreement to accelerate private investment in renewable energy and cooperation in electrical connectivity

Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
European Energy Commissioner Qadry Simson and His Royal Highness Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh. According to a European statement issued on Sunday in Brussels by the European Commission, “they discussed cooperation in the field of energy and clean technology to strengthen bilateral relations and advance the goals of the Paris Agreement and the outcomes of the UAE consensus reached at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai last year.”
His Royal Highness and the Commissioner reiterated how Saudi Arabia and the European Union share a strong determination to accelerate private investment in renewable energy and to cooperate in electrical interconnection and integration of renewable energy sources into the electricity grid, through further strengthening of electricity infrastructure, for example. Through smart grid demand side management (DSM), grid resilience and security measures, the hydrogen and clean technology sectors, including carbon capture, utilization and storage, support opportunities for industrial partnerships in those sectors, ensuring affordable, safe and sustainable energy markets for the future. .
