Head of the United Nations mission in Libya: A solution cannot be reached as long as the main players in the country continue to move to monopolize the political process and receive support from external parties.

New York: Europe and the Arabs
Abdullah Batili, the outgoing head of the United Nations mission in Libya, said that a solution cannot be reached in Libya as long as the main players in the country continue to move to monopolize the political process, warning that the transitional leaders throughout the last period continued to compete and were not actually interested in the stability of the country.
In an exclusive interview with UN News, Battelle noted that these key leaders in Libya are “so far unwilling to participate in a comprehensive negotiation process or a peace settlement.”
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya called on the current leaders to "have an awareness of history and think about the future of their country." He said that these leaders must bear moral responsibility before their country.
Batelli warned that there is a kind of renewed interest in the geopolitical position of Libya by a number of regional and international powers as a result of a number of international and regional crises, including the war in Ukraine, the worsening crises in countries such as Mali and Burkina Faso, and the influx of refugees into Chad.
He warned that as long as the main parties in Libya are supported in one way or another by external parties, “we cannot have a solution.”
