The German Vice Chancellor, according to what was reported by the European magazine Politico, accused Israel of violating international law. For continuing the attack on the city of Rafah.
For her part, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that the conflict in Gaza is a "true genocide" at a time when relations between Israel and Spain are deteriorating after Madrid's decision to recognize the Palestinian state.
Robles said - in statements reported by the British newspaper (The Guardian) -: “We cannot ignore what is happening in Gaza, which is a true genocide,” noting that Madrid’s recognition of Palestine was not a move against Israel, but rather it aims to help end the violence.
Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, confirmed this week that it would recognize a Palestinian state on May 28; This sparked an angry reaction from Israel, which said that this amounted to a “reward for terrorism” and summoned its ambassadors from the three capitals. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the decision of the International Court of Justice, which was issued almost unanimously, with the approval of 13 judges, regarding taking another set of binding precautionary measures, including Israel halting its military attack and any other measure or actions in Rafah.
The ministry said - in a press statement - that the court also decided that Israel is obligated to take precautionary measures, including allowing all investigative or fact-finding committees or any other investigative body regarding the charge of genocide and authorized by the United Nations, to enter Gaza. Likewise, all States are legally obligated to respect and ensure the implementation of these precautionary measures and the precautionary measures previously issued.
The Ministry called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in this regard, specifically protecting the rules-based system and the standing of the court by ensuring Israel’s immediate compliance with these decisions.
She stressed that the State of Palestine will work with all law-abiding states to serve these binding obligations, reiterating her gratitude to the people and government of South Africa for their moral and legal leadership in defending humanity and pushing for an end to this genocide.
