President of the United Nations General Assembly: UNRWA is an indispensable lifeline for millions of Palestinians...UNICEF warns of famine and says that the only solution is a ceasefire in Gaza

New York - Gaza: Europe and the Arabs
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned that the Gaza Strip faces the threat of famine, confirming that there are actual indicators of famine that directly affects children under the age of five.
UNICEF said, in a statement reported by the American Al-Hurra channel, that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is the only way to avoid the risk of famine, stressing that Gaza faces a severe lack of food security that affects the lives of all children.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) added that more than 300,000 people in the Gaza Strip are at risk of acute malnutrition and death.
For his part, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, said that the people and children of Palestine need UNRWA as a working agency, and described it as “an indispensable lifeline for millions of Palestinians” over the past 75 years. According to what was stated in the daily United Nations news bulletin, which added that in a letter sent yesterday, Saturday, to the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, the President of the General Assembly expressed his dissatisfaction with the continued deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and the severe challenges surrounding UNRWA. He urged Member States to provide sustainable and predictable financial and political support to UNRWA as it works to address “the largest humanitarian crisis since its founding.”
Mr. Francis's letter comes in response to a letter he had received from the Commissioner-General of UNRWA in which he asserted that the agency had reached the "brink of collapse", with Israel's repeated calls for its dismantling, and the freezing of funding by donors at a time when the Gaza Strip is witnessing unprecedented humanitarian needs.
