The Lebanese arena is witnessing developments at the present time that can be described as very important, whether with regard to news of attempts to reduce tension between the Israeli and Lebanese sides, especially through an invitation launched by the UNIFIL forces on the border area, as well as in the internal situation, where the investigations that began with the Governor of the Banque du Liban
In the first file, the head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, Major General Aroldo Lazaro, called on the Israeli and Lebanese sides to exercise restraint, maintain stability, and use UNIFIL mechanisms for coordination and liaison to avoid misunderstandings and reduce tensions.
This came in a statement by UNIFIL Spokesperson Andrea Tenenti today, Thursday, in which he confirmed that the mission had seen media reports stating that a person had infiltrated into Israel from Lebanon, stressing that UNIFIL had not noticed any crossing of the Blue Line in recent days.
As for the internal level, the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, arrived at the Palace of Justice in Beirut, this morning, Thursday, and there began an interrogation and investigation session with him by a European judicial team, according to the Lebanon 24 website.
The investigation delegation includes the French judge Aud Bourizi, representative of the European investigators, provided that the first investigating judge in Beirut, Charbel Abu Samra, will ask Salama questions.
According to the Lebanese website, the convoy that took Salameh to the Palace of Justice was not seen by anyone, just as no one was able to spot Salameh as he entered the “Adliya” building, and therefore it is possible that Salameh arrived at Adliya in a camouflaged car.
According to the sources, the journalists and citizens who gathered around the Palace of Justice were surprised by the arrival of information about Salama's arrival inside the "Adliya", noting that they were unable to know the entrance through which the convoy entered, which left Salameh less.
Coinciding with Salama's presence, the vicinity of the Palace of Justice witnessed strict security measures coinciding with the interrogation session, and Al Arabiya channel reported that the European judges would not ask Salama questions, and there were no confirmations about the number of interrogation sessions with the latter.
The investigators were supposed to hear the Governor of the Banque du Liban, on Wednesday, as part of investigations centered on his wealth and suspicions of money laundering, but the session did not take place.
Earlier, Salameh submitted an explanatory memorandum, considering that his summoning to a European investigation session is a violation of Lebanese sovereignty, and he also relied on the International Anti-Corruption Treaty that allows the state to postpone legal aid because it conflicts with ongoing investigations or judicial procedures.
In a related context, banking sources denied, to "Lebanon 24", what is being circulated about the submission of the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, to resign and place it at the disposal of Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
And she confirmed that this news is not true at all, as well as the news of the Prime Minister’s meeting with the First Deputy Governor of the Banque du Liban, Wasim Mansouri.
