Gaza - New York: Europe and the Arabs
The statements issued by international organizations affiliated with the United Nations and others during the past few hours are almost a duplicate, as almost the same phrases are used to describe the situation in the Palestinian territories as terrifying and raising the fear of famine and the spread of diseases in light of the continued Israeli bombing, the difficulty of accessing medical and food aid, and the killing and displacement of Palestinians.
Sean Casey, coordinator of the World Health Organization's emergency medical team, said that the situation in Gaza's hospitals, especially in the north, is extremely terrifying. He highlighted the rapid deterioration of the health system, increasing humanitarian needs and the low level of humanitarian access to the north.
Sean Casey spoke to reporters in New York, yesterday, Wednesday, after his recent return from Gaza, where he stayed for more than five weeks, where he worked from Rafah in the south in addition to his visits to the north many times.
The World Health Organization official highlighted many of the challenges that impede access to those affected by the conflict, such as restrictions imposed on humanitarian access, the movements of relief workers, and security obstacles, noting that relief convoys face daily challenges in order to deliver fuel and vital supplies to these hospitals so that they can Continue to provide a certain level of care to people who are suffering very greatly.
He said that every movement throughout the Gaza Strip requires coordination and involves risks and logistical challenges. He continued, saying: "We tried every day to overcome these challenges so that we could provide a certain level of care to thousands of infected people - between 50 to 60 thousand people or more who are still waiting for health care in light of a collapsed health system and huge numbers of men, women, children and the elderly who are suffering from They came to hospitals every day looking for treatment and comfort.”
He added, "Part of my individual focus was on mobilizing emergency medical teams with the goal of bringing more surgeons, doctors, and nurses to hospitals to try to save lives and avoid unnecessary amputations, to treat the many children I saw with horrific shrapnel and gunshot wounds, and to establish field hospitals."
In the same context, the United Nations Human Rights Office stated that, on Wednesday morning, Israeli forces killed five Palestinian men in an air strike on a car near Balata refugee camp in Nablus in the West Bank.
In a separate air strike incident, the Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory said that Israeli forces reportedly killed at least 4 other Palestinians, including 3 children, during their storming of the Tulkarm refugee camp. It was reported that an Israeli soldier was injured in the incident.
The office stated that the two incidents, according to preliminary information, raise concerns about unlawful killings. He stressed the need for Israel to ensure that an urgent, independent and effective investigation is conducted in this regard.
In a tweet on the X website, the office said: “The Israeli authorities continue to escalate operations in the West Bank. At least 9 Palestinians were reportedly killed. The unlawful killing of Palestinians must stop.”
